Synopsis

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

My Thoughts

I absolutely adored this book. I haven’t been this emotionally invested in a book for a very long time, and I cherished every single moment of it!

The characters are truly something out of a fairy tale. Deep within the heart of the circus, these people would not be able to function without the other. Each character is integral to the overall purpose of the circus. From get go, I was completely smitten with the Murray twins. Though their role was not pronounced until much later, their whimsy contrasted and complemented the depth with which they understood their surroundings simultaneously. I truly adored every moment they were the focus.

Most notably, the challenge was an exciting bit of adventure! Between competition, love, and sneakiness, Marco and Celia truly stole my heart away. Their careful tango from beginning to end was an adventure I was not prepared for, but I was enchanted by every minute of it.

The entire book is an enchanting, wonderful, masterful world of magic and mystery. I absolutely loved every moment I held this book in my hands. The Night Circus is a book I will read over, and over again, simply to re-live the experience of the Circus. The world that was created in this book is a world I truly wish I would experience in real life.
